A Swedish cohort study of over 13,000 distal radius fractures indicates that surgical treatment significantly improves 1-year patient-reported functional outcomes compared to nonsurgical management for severe, comminuted intra-articular fractures (AO 23-C2 and 23-C3). While surgery provides minimal clinical benefit across all fracture types combined, it offers superior recovery for these specific, complex injuries.
