Recent findings indicate that the Malnutrition Inflammation Risk Tool (MIRT) is highly effective for detecting malnutrition in patients with quiescent or mildly active inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). A study presented at the United European Gastroenterology Week in Berlin assessed five nutritional screening tools. It involved 66 adults navigating Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis. Results revealed that while malnutrition prevalence increased over time, MIRT showcased the highest sensitivity for malnutrition indicators, emphasizing the need to select appropriate screening tools based on clinical priorities.
