A study evaluated a new colonoscopy performance metric called adjusted mean number of polyps per 100 procedures (aMNP) and found strong correlations with existing detection metrics. The aMNP could offer a more precise assessment of endoscopy performance and address limitations of the adenoma detection rate. It includes all polyp types and does not rely on histology, which is critical for detecting subtle serrated polyps associated with increased cancer risk. Age, sex, procedure type, and history of polyps were important predictors of polyp detection rates. The aMNP could be integrated into centralized databases to support consistent benchmarking of colonoscopy quality nationwide.
