A review of 12 studies suggests that individuals with immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) often exhibit changes in their gut microbiome, indicating a potential link between gut health and autoimmune platelet disorders. The studies found inconsistent findings regarding microbial patterns, suggesting that while gut microbiome changes are common in ITP, no consistent pattern has been established. The review also explored how the gut microbiome might influence ITP through microbial metabolites and noted the impact of ITP treatments on the gut microbiome. However, inconsistencies across studies indicate the need for larger, standardized studies to clarify the relationship between gut microbiota and ITP.
