The Yale School of Medicine announced that they have received the 2023 National Quality Improvement Challenge award from the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology following the development of a digital clinical decision support tool. Many patients with cardiovascular disease may undergo unnecessary procedures and face additional risks and health-care costs because of differences in the use of diagnostic tests. The novel tool—known as Stressing Wisely—utilizes 2,100 clinical scenarios and guidelines from specialty societies to aid physicians in selecting the most appropriate diagnostic tests to assess patients with cardiovascular disease. Though the tool’s development was complex, the researchers highlighted that its application could be widespread in clinical settings across the United States. “This tool promises to enhance decision-making at the point of care, ensuring that patients receive the most appropriate and evidence-based diagnostic interventions,” concluded Jiun-Ruey Hu, MD, MPH, a clinical fellow in the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at the Yale School of Medicine.
