C-peptide levels obtained during an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) in early pregnancy can predict the likelihood of developing gestational diabetes (GDM), according to a study conducted in the UK. The research, involving 83 pregnant women with known GDM risk factors, demonstrated that C-peptide levels measured at 30 and 60 minutes were effective indicators. Despite challenges from the COVID-19 pandemic limiting sample size, the findings suggest early testing for C-peptide may help in identifying patients at risk for GDM as researchers call for larger validation studies.
