A recent study on children with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) found that nearly two-thirds successfully tapered glucocorticoids within the first year without an increased risk of flare-ups. Conducted across three referral centers in Turkey, researchers reviewed the medical charts of 80 children diagnosed between 2012 and 2022. The findings suggest that early glucocorticoid tapering is feasible and safe, with a significant portion achieving low disease activity without worsening their condition, indicating a need for aggressive treatment to prevent damage from disease activity.
