In a randomized clinical trial of 995 university students with psychological distress, a 12-week conversational artificial intelligence platform was associated with greater reductions in anxiety and improvements in well-being compared with both face-to-face group therapy and a waiting list control, and greater reductions in depression and life satisfaction vs control, with no effect on posttraumatic stress disorder symptoms.
