A comprehensive study in South Korea reveals a significant correlation between metabolic dysfunction–associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and increased risk of sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL) in older adults. Analyzing data from 189,623 seniors over nine years, the research found a notable incidence of SSNHL in those with MASLD compared to non-MASLD individuals, even after controlling for confounders. The findings stress that MASLD could be a modifiable risk factor for SSNHL, advocating for routine auditory screenings in affected patients.
