A comprehensive meta-analysis involving over 1.5 million patients reveals complex relationships between autoimmune diseases and the risk of various digestive system cancers. The study, which analyzed data from 47 observational studies, identifies celiac disease, systemic lupus erythematosus, multiple sclerosis, and type 1 diabetes, each presenting unique risk profiles. Celiac disease notably correlates with significantly increased risks for several cancers, particularly small intestine cancer. The findings highlight the need for targeted cancer screenings and further investigation into treatment impacts and confounding factors.
