A large study of Seventh-day Adventists found that vegetarian diets, including vegan, lacto-ovo vegetarian, and pesco-vegetarian diets, were associated with a reduced risk of various cancers. The study monitored 79,468 cancer-free participants for nearly eight years, revealing decreased risks of all cancers and several specific cancer types among vegetarians. Adjusting for various factors such as age, sex, and BMI, the findings suggest that vegetarian diets may independently influence cancer risk, although causation cannot be established from observational studies.
