A recent meta-analysis published in BMC Medicine reveals that patients typically start regaining weight just 8 weeks after discontinuing anti-obesity medications (AOMs) like GLP-1 receptor agonists and orlistat. This study analyzed data from 1,573 participants and discovered that significant weight regain persisted for up to one year, particularly among those who lost more weight during treatment and those with type 2 diabetes. Notably, ongoing lifestyle interventions failed to mitigate this regain, prompting calls for extended monitoring and more research into effective long-term weight maintenance strategies.
