Eli Lilly's oral agent, orforglipron, demonstrated significant body weight reductions and lowered HbA1c in adults with type 2 diabetes in a phase III trial. The once-daily GLP-1 receptor agonist achieved mean weight loss of 4.7% to 7.9% and decreased HbA1c levels by 1.3% to 1.6%. Nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting were reported as adverse events, with no observed liver safety signals. This new non-peptide small molecule could potentially simplify treatment and distribution of GLP-1 therapies.
