Adults aged 50 to 70 years with prediabetes who ate one fresh mango daily for 24 weeks had lower fasting blood glucose at week 24 than those assigned an isocaloric granola bar; 23 of 24 randomized patients completed the trial. Hemoglobin A1c remained stable in the mango group and increased in controls, insulin sensitivity was higher with mango, insulin resistance showed a borderline reduction, and body fat percentage declined while fat-free mass increased in the mango group.
