A study involving 6,868 patients at Sfântul Spiridon Emergency Hospital in Romania uncovered a significant relationship between diabetes mellitus and increased oral and maxillofacial pathologies, including malignant tumors and periodontal disease. Among the 925 patients with diabetes (13% of the cohort), the incidence of pathologies was notably higher, with malignant tumors seen in 15% of diabetic patients compared to 1% in non-diabetics. The findings, supported by statistical analyses, emphasize the need for proactive screening and management of oral health in diabetic patients.
