A comprehensive cross-sectional study examining causes of death among U.S. medical residents from 2015 to 2021 revealed that suicide remains the leading cause of death, unchanged since 2000 to 2014. Specialty-specific patterns highlight concerning rates in certain medical fields. Despite lower death rates compared to the general population, there is a call for proactive well-being interventions to address distress and mitigate suicide risk during key transition periods.
