The Gallup survey conducted from November 6 to 20, 2024, in partnership with West Health, revealed a significant decline in Americans' self-assessments of their mental and physical health. The study documented a continued downward trend that began around 2013 and accelerated with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Notably, younger populations, particularly women aged 18 to 29 years, exhibited the most severe declines in mental health ratings. The report identified potential factors contributing to the decline, including heightened anxiety due to the COVID-19 crisis and increased diagnoses of depression. Despite the end of the public health emergency declaration in 2023, Americans' health perceptions have not fully rebounded, indicating potential lasting changes in public health.
