A recent Danish study involving 1,735 bereaved individuals found that those with persistent grief symptoms exhibited higher healthcare utilization, including primary care visits and mental health services, as well as increased mortality rates over a decade. The cohort was assessed using the Prolonged Grief-13 scale and categorized into various grief trajectories, notably the high grief trajectory (HGT) group, which showed significantly elevated health service use and psychotropic medication consumption. Researchers stress the necessity of systematic grief assessment for timely intervention in this vulnerable population.
