A recent study led by Aviya Litman from Princeton University identifies four distinct subtypes of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) based on genetic mutations and developmental trajectories. Using a person-centered phenotypic-genetic framework on data from over 5,300 children, researchers categorized ASD into Social/behavioral, Mixed ASD with developmental delay, Moderate challenges, and Broadly affected classes. Each subtype displayed specific clinical outcomes and genetic patterns, providing insights for future diagnostic and treatment strategies.
