A recent study revealed that individuals with opioid use disorder (OUD) exhibited diminished brain responses to positive emotional stimuli, which was associated with increased opioid craving. The implementation of a mindfulness-based therapy, known as Mindfulness-Oriented Recovery Enhancement (MORE), demonstrated improvements in brain responses to positive stimuli and reduction in craving. The therapy aimed to address deficits in emotion regulation experienced by individuals with OUD, potentially offering a strategy to normalize reward system function and mitigate OUD.
