A systematic review of 27 studies encompassing 5,057 social media posts found that mental health and neurodivergence-related content varied widely in accuracy, with misinformation prevalence ranging from 0% to 57% and averaging 26% across platforms, with higher rates observed in TikTok content and in posts related to attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder and autism. Reliability and quality also varied, with generally lower scores for nonprofessional content, inconsistent evaluation methods across studies, and notable limitations including single-language analyses and lack of interrater reliability reporting, highlighting gaps in content standardization and oversight.
