Young adults with iron deficiency anemia (IDA) have a significantly higher risk of experiencing an ischemic stroke. A nationwide analysis of over 21 million individuals in the United States found that patients aged 15 to 49 with IDA were five times more likely to have an ischemic stroke. This association persisted even after adjusting for other risk factors, such as hypertension, smoking, and diabetes. The study highlights the importance of screening and treating IDA in young adults to prevent strokes.
