In an analysis of National Electronic Injury Surveillance System data from 2015 to 2023, researchers identified an estimated 3,739 US cases of grill brush wire bristle ingestion, representing a 229% increase compared with 2006 to 2014, with injuries most commonly affecting the oropharynx and frequently requiring emergency care or hospital admission. Despite prior public awareness efforts, incidence continues to rise, with cases often requiring multidisciplinary management due to challenges in detection and removal and the potential for serious complications, including aerodigestive tract perforation.
