In this retrospective cohort study of 119 patients with obstructive sleep apnea who underwent hypoglossal nerve stimulation, researchers found that smaller neck circumference, lower body mass index, lower apnea-hypopnea index scores, and fewer comorbidities were associated with greater treatment response. These factors were incorporated into a four-stage clinical severity system that may help physicians better identify candidates most likely to benefit from hypoglossal nerve stimulation implantation, although external validation is still needed.
