New research revealed that obesity is an independent risk factor for failure to achieve remission in patients with early rheumatoid arthritis, as demonstrated by a Swedish team's analysis of data from 1,285 patients. The study found a clear association between obesity and remission failure, even after adjusting for various factors. The effect was particularly pronounced in women and smokers, with a 36% higher risk of remission failure in women with obesity compared to those with normal weight.
