A recent review found a 97.8% probability that a 7-day course of antibiotics is noninferior to a 14-day course for treating Gram-negative bloodstream infections in hospitalized adult patients. Lead study author, Todd C. Lee, MD, MPH, and colleagues conducted a systematic review and Bayesian meta-analysis of four randomized clinical trials, concluding that a shorter treatment duration is likely sufficient in appropriate clinical scenarios.
