Researchers found that medical students with disabilities were more than 50% more likely to experience discrimination during medical school compared with their peers. Among 45,705 graduating students surveyed between 2020 and 2022, 22.2% reported general discrimination, 21.9% gender-based discrimination, and 11.8% race-based discrimination, with elevated relative risks of 1.5 to 1.6 among students with disabilities. Black and Asian female students with disabilities reported the highest rates of race- and gender-based discrimination, respectively. Researchers emphasized the need to address intersecting forms of bias to promote equity and inclusion across medical education.
