A recent study conducted by Raphael E. Cuomo at the University of California, San Diego, revealed that individuals with cannabis use disorder (CUD) are over three times more likely to develop oral cancer within five years compared to those without the disorder. Analyzing data from 45,129 adults, researchers found that 0.74% of patients with CUD developed oral cancer. The study highlights an independent association between CUD and enhanced oral cancer risk, emphasizing the necessity for heightened clinical awareness and screening in this population amidst growing cannabis legalization.
