A double-blind crossover randomized clinical trial found that once-daily low-dose prednisolone was associated with slower bone turnover and modest improvements in weight, waist circumference, and glycated hemoglobin compared with thrice-daily hydrocortisone in adults with adrenal insufficiency, with no differences in safety or quality of life. However, the findings are based on short-term surrogate markers, and their clinical significance remains uncertain.
