A study of pediatric patients with pancreatitis-related diabetes found that despite regular testing and treatment, most struggled to achieve recommended blood sugar targets. The patients, primarily female, Hispanic or Latino, and obese, had difficulty controlling their blood sugar, with only 44% meeting the target HbA1c level. Those who underwent total pancreatectomy with islet autotransplantation (TPIAT) were more likely to achieve glycemic control. The study emphasizes the need for tailored screening and treatment protocols for this high-risk population.
