Midline catheters demonstrate significantly lower failure and complication rates compared to long peripheral catheters in patients undergoing bariatric surgery, according to a study involving 224 participants. Conducted by researchers from Zhejiang University, the trial showed complication rates of 13% versus 28%, and device failure rates of 11% compared to 21%, respectively. Midlines also offered longer dwell times and fewer required vascular accesses. However, they took longer to insert, suggesting trade-offs in clinical settings.
