A newly released guideline recommends lifestyle interventions as the first-line treatment for type 2 diabetes and prediabetes. These interventions, including nutrition, physical activity, stress management, and sleep, aim to prevent progression, improve glycemic control, and, in some cases, achieve remission without medication, which is supported by extensive evidence. Despite some patients' preference for medication, lifestyle interventions have the potential to reduce healthcare spending and address racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic disparities in diabetes management.
