A large Mendelian randomization study showed that cancer risk varied by body fat distribution. Abdominal and liver fat increased risks for several cancers, gluteofemoral fat lowered risks for breast cancer and meningioma, and pancreas fat raised risk for endometrioid ovarian cancer. Hormonal and metabolic pathways partly explained these findings, but results were limited to patients of European ancestry.
