A randomized trial compared the outcomes of early coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery (2-3 days following ticagrelor cessation) and delayed CABG (5-7 days). The study found that early CABG may be noninferior to the conventional waiting period in terms of perioperative bleeding, and it was associated with a shorter hospital stay. Lead author Derek Y. F. So, MD, and colleagues suggested that the data support a reduction in the delay between ticagrelor cessation and CABG surgery, particularly benefiting patients with high-risk anatomy or recurrent ischemic symptoms. The study, conducted between 2016 and 2021, provided clinical evidence supporting an earlier surgical approach and demonstrated lower platelet reactivity prior to surgery in the early group.
