A study by Zhenyu Shi and colleagues from Zhejiang Chinese Medical University found that adults in the U.S. with lower Life’s Essential 8 (LE8) cardiovascular health scores have significantly higher odds of experiencing a stroke. LE8 scores, which assess diet, physical activity, nicotine exposure, sleep, BMI, blood pressure, blood glucose, and non-HDL cholesterol, categorize participants into high, moderate, or low cardiovascular health groups. The research demonstrated a dose-response relationship, indicating that higher LE8 scores correlate with reduced stroke risk, emphasizing the importance of cardiovascular health metrics for stroke prevention.
