A study led by Diana Popescu from the 'Grigore T. Popa' University of Medicine and Pharmacy investigated the effects of Janus kinase inhibitors (JAK inhibitors) on early artery damage in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and psoriatic arthritis. Following 48 adults over 12 months, researchers found significant reductions in carotid intima-media thickness and improvements in systemic inflammation. While Lp(a) levels decreased, patients with preexisting vascular damage still showed elevated cardiovascular risk, underscoring the need for continuous monitoring and preventive measures.
