A cross-sectional analysis of blood pressure data from self-service kiosks in U.S. retail stores revealed that nearly 50% of adult users had high blood pressure, surpassing traditional survey estimates. The study, utilizing data from approximately 1.3 million adults across 49 states and the District of Columbia from 2017 to 2024, found higher prevalence rates among non-Hispanic Black adults and seniors aged 65 and older. Despite limitations such as selection bias and measurement protocol differences, the findings underscore kiosks' potential for monitoring hypertension in underrepresented populations.
