A large study from Sweden found that adults diagnosed with type 1 diabetes have a significantly higher risk of early mortality and major adverse cardiovascular events compared to those without diabetes or with type 2 diabetes. The study highlighted three key risk factors that contribute to poor outcomes: smoking, elevated blood sugar levels, and overweight or obesity. Addressing these factors, particularly smoking, glycemic control, and weight management, is crucial to reduce the risk of severe complications in adult patients with type 1 diabetes.
