A retrospective cohort study of more than 1.6 million US veterans found no significant association between exposure to Hurricanes Sandy or Harvey and acute cardiovascular or respiratory events after researchers accounted for preexisting regional health differences. Instead, neighborhood disadvantage, older age, and sex were the strongest factors associated with adverse cardiopulmonary outcomes.
