In a prospective single-center study of 93 positive blood cultures from oncology patients with bloodstream infection, the BioFire FilmArray Blood Culture Identification 2 multiplex PCR panel identified microorganisms in 94% of samples and showed complete agreement with standard methods at the genus level, with minor species-level discrepancies. The assay delivered results within 1 hour and detected antimicrobial resistance genes in 59 isolates, demonstrating strong concordance with phenotypic susceptibility testing and substantially faster turnaround than conventional culture-based methods.
