Recent findings indicate that voice and speech abnormalities may be overlooked symptoms of myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) and long COVID with post-exertional malaise. An extensive online survey of 685 individuals revealed direct references to speech dysfunction in 9.27% of responses. Symptoms included slurred speech, hoarseness, and difficulty articulating. The unprompted nature of these reports suggests that such symptoms could be significant yet underrecognized characteristics of ME/CFS, warranting further exploration.
