A study led by Lily Francis, MBBS, MPhil, at the Glenn Biggs Institute for Alzheimer’s and Neurodegenerative Diseases found that adults under 70 with hearing loss who used hearing aids had a 61% reduced risk of developing dementia over two decades. In this prospective analysis involving 2,953 patients from the Framingham Heart Study, only 20% developed dementia during follow-up. The study highlighted the importance of early intervention for hearing loss, emphasizing that just 17% of those with moderate to severe hearing loss utilized hearing aids.
