In a multicenter, randomized, superiority trial of 466 adults aged 45 years and older with symptomatic knee osteoarthritis, adding compartment-specific knee bracing plus an adherence intervention to standard advice, written information, and exercise instruction resulted in small but statistically significant improvements in patient-reported outcomes at 6 months compared with advice and exercise alone, with the largest effect seen in pain reduction and benefits that tended to diminish by 12 months, and the intervention was safe with only minor expected adverse events.
