In a retrospective study of 97 patients with elbow osteoarthritis who underwent arthroscopic surgery, researchers analyzed the impact of osteophytes in the dorsal aspect of the capitellum on range of motion (ROM) and the Mayo Elbow Performance Score (MEPS). Findings indicated that osteophytes in this region correlated significantly with lower ROM and MEPS scores, suggesting they may serve as indicators of disease severity. The study also highlighted the utility of a novel classification system for precise mapping of osteophyte locations, aiding surgical decision-making. However, the sample's age limitation and gender imbalance may affect generalizability.
