Early phase 1 trial data suggest that intravitreal vamikibart may have a favorable safety profile in patients with noninfectious uveitic macular edema, although efficacy remains unproven, according to a JAMA Ophthalmology Viewpoint. Researchers highlighted findings from the nonrandomized DOVETAIL trial, in which no drug-related serious adverse events, sustained intraocular pressure elevations, or new cataracts were reported across dose groups. Preliminary visual and anatomical improvements were observed, including reduced intraretinal fluid and gains in best-corrected visual acuity. Investigators cautioned that the study’s small size, lack of randomization, and absence of a control group limit interpretation pending results from ongoing phase 3 trials.
