In a multicenter mixed-method study of ophthalmologists and patients, researchers identified key communication challenges in ophthalmic consultations—including gaps in patient understanding, limited emotional engagement, time constraints, and poor relational continuity—and developed a structured 'Strategic Communication' framework (O.D.I.: Observe, Question, Intervene) to address them. Findings suggested that misalignment between physician perceptions and patient experiences may contribute to reduced trust, suboptimal adherence, and limited shared decision-making, highlighting the need for more systematic, patient-centered communication approaches in clinical practice.
