Preeclampsia Study Reveals Neurological Disease Links
A Swedish registry study of 648,385 women revealed that those who experienced eclampsia during pregnancy had a 5.3-fold increased risk of developing epilepsy compared to women with normotensive pregnancies during a 15-year follow-up period.
A new study published in JAMA Neurology followed 648,385 women for up to 15 years, finding elevated risks of neurologic disorders postpartum among those with gestational hypertension, preeclampsia, or eclampsia. The study highlighted the increased risk associated with pregnancy-related hypertensive disorders, especially eclampsia, which was linked to a significant increase in the risk of developing epilepsy. It underscored the importance of heightened neurologic monitoring in women with a history of these pregnancy disorders.
