A new modeling study based on the Global Burden of Disease Study 2021 predicts that the global prevalence of Parkinson’s disease is projected to more than double by 2050, reaching an estimated 25.2 million cases worldwide. The sharp increase is primarily attributed to population aging, with additional contributions from population growth and changes in disease prevalence. The study underscores the need for health care systems to prepare for increased demand for neurologic care, treatment advancements, and policy initiatives.
