A U.S. study found that older adult patients diagnosed with herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) had a higher risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease. The risk increased with age, and those who received antiviral medication had a lower risk. The findings support prior studies linking viral infections to neurodegenerative diseases and suggest implications for long-term brain health in older adults.
