A study examining nearly 30 years of data from 13,721 patients revealed that those hospitalized for transient ischemic attacks (TIA) face nearly double the risk of developing dementia compared to non-TIA patients. The median duration from TIA to dementia diagnosis was over 7 years, with significantly elevated rates of stroke and cardiovascular diseases as well as a 55% increase in all-cause mortality post-TIA. The study underscores the need for cognitive screening in TIA follow-ups despite existing clinical guidelines focusing on acute management.
